A hand sanding horizontal wooden slats with a sanding block

Services

Wood sanding

Strip weathered wood back to clean, sound timber.

Overview

Back to bare, sound wood

Peeling varnish, grey sun-bleached boards and layers of paint on a door all have one fix: take them back to bare wood. Sanding removes the damaged surface and opens the grain, so a new finish can soak in and bond. It is the step that decides how long the next coat lasts.

Scope

What's included

Every quote is itemised: you see each part of the job as its own line before anything starts.

  • Removal of old paint, varnish or failed coatings
  • Machine sanding of flat surfaces, hand sanding of edges and details
  • Progressively finer grits for a smooth, even surface
  • Dust control and clean-up during and after the work
  • Decks, doors, shutters, furniture, beams and trim

Process

How the job runs

  1. Inspection

We check what is on the wood now and how deep the damage goes.

  2. Sanding

Coarse to fine, by machine where possible and by hand in the details.

  3. Finish

Usually followed by a new coating; we quote both, so you see the full picture.

Warranty and limits

Good to know

Protect it next
Bare wood should not sit unprotected in the sun. We plan the coating right after the sanding.
Dust
Sanding makes fine dust. Nearby rooms and furniture are covered and the area is cleaned at the end of each day.
